Emily Kate Stowe

The treatment consists of a series of operations that in effect over time re-plumb the heart, re-channeling the blood around the body in a different way which allows the stronger half of the heart to take over the functions of the weaker side. The initial operation was a 6 hour heart bypass and was performed immediately and even though her chances of survival were not good - Emily pulled through, in fact at every step where the outlook was poor, Emily’s spirit and her fight for life drove her forwards through the long recovery much to our relief as we could do little but watch.

As time passed, Emily continued to grow stronger, up to the points that the different departments that looked after her all decided that they had done all the could and it wa down to general care to allow her to grow and thrive.

She was released back to Wolverhampton New Cross Hospital for observation, which made life a great deal easier for us. One of the nurses let slip that really all she was there for was to watch how we as parents. new first time parents at that. handled the situation and he hinted quietly that if we were to take charge and show willing and capable of administering the 9 different medications that Emily was on at that time then they could release Emily back to our sole care sooner rather than later.

So we took up the challenge, on the very next round of the nurses medicinal trolley. We stood in front and said.. "okay what do we do" and the lessons began.

After a week of observation with us only providing the care the doctors saw that she was still progressing we had there blessings and she was released home.
